Michelin Game - Unpossible Review

In the past few years, iOS gaming has been responsible for a number of new video gaming genres. In particular, the endless running category. That has, in turn, spawned off other endless variants like endless flying, endless racing etc.

Recently, there has been a lot of hype and publicity regarding the Flappy Bird game, and despite how I feel about the game itself, it was a phenomenal hit that surpassed everyone's expectations.

Michelin Game - The Occupant Review

With Halloween just around the corner, it's little wonder that a number of horror games are being released this week. Indigo Lake, which I have just reviewed is probably the scariest game on the iOS platform. And now, we have The Occupant.

Written and developed by a 2-man team, it is based off the Unreal engine and the game itself has a very simple premise.

Michelin Game - Batman Arkham City Lockdown Review

2010's release of Infinity Blade has brought about a slew of similar swipe/touch combat games on the iOS platform, and with the recent release of the iOS version of Batman Arkham Origins, I thought it would be good to look back at 2011's Batman game that was based off the same console game that year.

Certainly, it bears a lot of similarities to the Infinity Blade series, and is a stripped down storyline of the console version. Despite that, it is still the best Batman game for the iPad and iPhone.

Michelin Game - Indigo Lake Review

There are very few horror videogames that are actually terrifying, and even fewer on the iOS platform. But 3 Cubes Research seems to want to alter that with their latest release.

Indigo Lake is also an iOS game unlike any that I have come across so far. It is a combination of a few gaming genres, and yet as a whole, it feels very fresh and inventive as well.

Michelin Game - Trouserheart Review

There has been many Diablo clones in iOS gaming, and for that matter, a fair number of hack and slash type of games on this platform. For the most part, they are usually quite competent and playable, and some like Orc: Vengence, are really quite outstanding.

Yet, there has never been one that really compelled me to play until the end, as most of such games tend to be quite repetitive and consist of very cliche storylines.

Michelin Game - Melodive

It is only March 2013, but I think I am already playing the game of the year. A game that is so clever and simple.

The game is called Melodive, and it is another one of those one man developer games that comes out of nowhere and is making a splash right now.

Michelin Game - Aftermath

With the recent popularity of The Walking Dead series in comics and TV, and the success of the recent video game of the same name, zombie games are currently the rage on the app store.

There have so many releases of zombie games and shooters that it is almost hard to pick out one that truly stands out. Thankfully, TwoHeads Games actually managed to produce one such standout.

Michelin Game - Gunman Clive

Gunman Clive could well be the best platform game to come out of the App Store. And for a game that has been basically created and developed by a single individual, it is pretty amazing.

And that man is Bertil Horberg, whose earlier work, Helium Boy, was a decemt and fun 3D platformer but lacked a certain polish and had only about 8 levels of gameplay.

Michelin Game - Unknown Orbit

The idea of playing as a comet in a videogame may not come as instinctively to everyone, but Exbleative, the developer behind this new arcade space game has done just that to create a unique IOS experience that is both original and familiar.

In fact, Exbleative is largely a one man development team founded by Jay Weston, whose previous work was with Binary Space's Zombie Outbreak Simulator.

Michelin Game - Trigger Fist

It is of no doubt that the iOS gaming scene has greatly progressed since 2008 when the the App store was first introduced, and it is simply amazing how far iOS gaming has come since then.

We have been constantly comparing mobile games to console gaming, and with every year, the gap between mobile and console gaming seems to be diminishing.

Michelin Game - Temple Run

Temple Run has been one of the most extraordinary success stories on the App Store, and what is more amazing is the indie nature of the development team, which is essentially a husband and wife team and one graphic designer.

Temple Run has also reached 100 million downloads in exactly a year of release, and the figure itself is staggering, and hopes of merchandising is on the horizon even as this is being written.

So, what exactly is Temple Run and what has made this game so wildly successful?

Michelin Game - Catapult King

There is no doubt that Angry Birds has been a phenomenal success in the video gaming industry. It is basically the best selling game ever on a mobile device and has reinvented the casual gaming genre.

Not only that, the game has been successful because it has a certain personality, so much so that merchandising of the Angry Birds characters is now on par with Nintendo's Mario and Sega's Sonic.

Yet, despite all these incredible successes, I have never grown to love Angry Birds. I like it, I think it is a fun game, but I can never get past a few dozen levels without getting bored.

Michelin Game - Blueprint 3D

When  you talk about puzzle games on the iPhone and the iPad, Angry Birds usually come to mind for most people, and while I am not denying that Angry Birds is a great game, there are also far more innovative and superior games out there for your iOS devices.

One of them is a game that has been out for some time now, and it is published by FDG Entertainment, who was also involved in Scotland Yard.

Michelin Game - Scotland Yard

In a time before video games, I vividly remember spending a great part of my childhood with my friends and relatives playing classic board games like Monopoly and Cluedo.

These days, children have all but forgotten this marvelous pastime, and I used to remember the excitement and immense joy in getting out of these evergreen games.

Michelin Game - Highway Rider

The App Store has always been the platform for individual developers to try out new and interesting game concepts, and one of the most successful casual gaming ideas that has become a mainstay for iOS is the endless running game category.

Canabalt, which originated from the Flash platform probably started this genre a few years back, and since then, games like Tiny Wings and Monster Dash have taken this concept and improve it with RPG like upgrades and elements.

Michelin Game - Windosill

One of the joys of the Apple AppStore is discovering the sheer amount of indie games that have been created by brilliant and talented individuals.

One of these talents goes by the name of Patrick Smith, who happens to be an equally brilliant artist in his own right, and hails from New York. He first started developing games on the Flash platform before porting them over the iOS devices.

Michelin Game - Anomaly Warzone Earth HD

One of the prime reasons for me to initiate this blog was to bring to readers' attention here in Singapore, some of the better games and apps on the AppStore that many might not know of.

While games like Angry Birds and Plants Vs Zombies are regularly played by Singaporeans on trains and buses, there are still a wealth of great games and apps yet undiscovered by folks here.
